![]() ![]() I was on His errand, caring for His children. One thing I always had confidence in after the MTC was that the Lord was never going to fail me. I learned how to say “Not my will, but thine be done.” While in the MTC, I saw many of my weaknesses, but learned to turn it over to the Lord. Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are the greatest mentors anyone could have. But there is someone, and it’s not us, who knows exactly what we need to gain eternal happiness, and has the power to make us greater than we are. There is a belief in the world centered on each individual going after their own needs. ![]() By doing this, by putting our whole souls in the Lord’s hands, we allow Him to change us. I want to be a consecrated missionary.” Elder Callister teaches that a consecrated missionary is one who lays everything on the altar of sacrifice, who holds nothing back. But I remember reading it and thinking “I don’t want to be a mediocre missionary, or a good missionary. I read this talk so many times on my mission, and each time learned something new, and so it’s hard for me to remember which specific parts impacted me most during my time in the MTC. The talk was “A Consecrated Missionary,” given by Tad R Callister in the MTC on October 7, 2008. I learned how to pray SINCERELY.īut perhaps the most significant thing I learned in the MTC was who the Lord wanted me to be, and it came from an email I received from my uncle and the attached talk. I learned how to set goals and achieve them. I gained a basis of how to teach each of the Gospel topics-and study them-that I carried with me throughout my mission. My testimony of the Book of Mormon and the prophet Joseph Smith was strengthened. I learned a lot about my calling as a missionary, and gained confidence in knowing who had sent me and what I was to do. I learned a lot about communicating with love with a companion. In the MTC I learned how the Lord can strengthen us and heal us physically. Whether it’s the Gospel, a language, or physics, the principles are the same, and we learn all truth through the Spirit. Many look to his remarks because of his talent for teaching complex principles clearly and powerfully.My spiritual learning in the MTC was no less than my language learning in the MTC. He has delivered countless addresses and has authored the books The Blueprint of Christ’s Church, The Infinite Atonement, and The Inevitable Apostasy and the Promised Restoration. He served in the Presidency of the Seventy from 2011 until 2014, when he was called as the Sunday School general president.īrother Callister blesses Church members worldwide with his insights into doctrinal principles and his stalwart testimony of God, Jesus Christ, and the restored gospel. He served as a counselor and then as president of the Pacific Area, based in Auckland, New Zealand. While serving as a mission president in the Canada Toronto East Mission in 2008, Callister was called to be a General Authority. He later served as a regional representative and as an Area Seventy for the North America Northwest Area. He was the president of the Verdugo Hills Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and he has also served as a bishop and stake president. In addition to his devotion to his family, he has also been involved in his community and especially in service to the Lord. Numbers and clauses have not, however, been the focus of Callister’s life. He spent most of his career practicing tax law in California. Education & CareerĬallister earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from BYU and went on to earn a juris doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a master’s degree specializing in tax law from New York University Law School. They were married in December 1968 and have six children and many grandchildren. When he returned, he attended Brigham Young University, where he met Kathryn Louise Saporiti. ![]() He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern Atlantic States, based in Washington, DC. Tad Richards Callister was born December 17, 1945, in Glendale, California. Callister has a family legacy of Church leadership, and he augments that legacy with his own distinguished service.
